Description

This medium-sized, triangular point exhibits a distinctive elliptical profile in cross-section. Its blade features a pronounced excurvate shape, characterized by an inward curvature at the apex and a recurvate curvature at the shoulders. The apex is typically apiculate, forming a sharp, pointed tip. The shoulders are either faint or absent, positioned at an acute, upward angle. A long, contracting stem with a convex base defines the point's proximal end, although the stem's boundaries can be somewhat indistinct. The flaking pattern observed on this point is random, lacking a discernible, organized arrangement.

Size

The dimensions of the arrowheads are as follows: they range in overall length from 40 to 104 mm, with a mean length of 59 mm. The stem length varies between 15 and 33 mm. The width of the blade spans from 18 to 37 mm, averaging 28 mm. At the shoulders, the stem width measures between 11 and 17 mm. In terms of thickness, the arrowheads range from 7 to 15 mm, with an average thickness of 10 mm.

Distribution

This type is mainly located within the central coastline area and mountain ranges of California, specifically between San Mateo and Montgomery counties. The majority of these specimens are clustered in the northern parts of this geographic range. They can also be discovered further south, as far as San Diego County, although their presence becomes less common
