Description
This lithic specimen exhibits a distinctive medium-sized isosceles triangle configuration, characterized by a side notch and a cross-sectional profile that ranges from flattened to elliptical. The blade itself is slender, with a morphology that transitions from straight to subtly incurvate. As it approaches the distal end, the blade narrows incrementally, culminating in a refined, needle-like apex. Certain variants of this point type may display a serrated edge along the blade. The presence of parallel, U-shaped notches creates horizontal shoulders and a broadening stem, while some examples feature a more expansive, wide U-shaped notch. The basal aspect of the point is typically concave, often forming a wide, V-shaped or U-shaped termination. The flaking pattern observed on this point is random, lacking a discernible, organized sequence.
Size
The dimensions of the arrowheads are as follows: they range in overall length from 40 to 110 mm, with stem lengths varying between 8 and 13 mm. The width of the blade spans 10 to 15 mm, while the neck width measures between 5 and 8 mm. Additionally, the basal width is recorded to be within the range of 12 to 18 mm.
Distribution
This type is mainly discovered in the Gila Bend area of southern Arizona and extends to other Hohokam settlement and exchange zones.
