Description
This triangular side-notched projectile point exhibits a distinctive elliptical profile in cross-section. Characterized by an excurvate blade shape, many specimens display a notably elongated and slender blade morphology. The notches, which are typically wide and shallow, are oriented in a parallel fashion and are positioned low on the blade, resulting in a subtle, angled shoulder. The stem is conspicuously short and expands outward, while the base varies in shape, ranging from a slight concavity to a straight edge. The flaking pattern on this point is random, lacking a discernible or consistent pattern.
Size
The arrowheads exhibit the following dimensional characteristics: overall length ranges from 35 to 60 mm, while the stem measures between 9 and 11 mm in length. The blade width varies from 15 to 22 mm, and the neck width spans 14 to 19 mm. Additionally, the stem width is observed to be between 16 and 22 mm, although it is noteworthy that these measurements are derived from a limited dataset.
Distribution
This type is mainly discovered in the White River valley of Indiana and Illinois. This type has also been identified as far as Kentucky.
