Description
This triangular point exhibits a slender profile, measuring between small to medium in size, with a cross-sectional shape that ranges from flattened to elliptical. The blade's curvature is predominantly recurvate, characterized by an inward curve at the apex and an outward flare at the shoulder edge. Delicate serrations frequently adorn the blade's surface. The shoulder morphology can vary, spanning from barbed to horizontal configurations, with the long, flaring barbed type being particularly distinctive. The stem tapers inward, displaying a range of lengths from short to long. The basal edge is either convex or pointed. Notably, this point type often showcases exceptional craftsmanship, featuring a random chevron flaking pattern that underscores the skill of its manufacture.
Size
The arrowheads exhibit a range of dimensions, with overall lengths spanning 28 to 60 mm. The stem, which forms the base of the arrowhead, measures between 12 and 21 mm in length. In terms of width, the blade itself ranges from 17 to 36 mm, while the stem width at the shoulders varies from 7 to 14 mm. The thickness of the arrowheads falls within a range of 4 to 7 mm.
Distribution
This artifact is mainly discovered on the offshore Channel Islands. It is suggested that these artifacts migrated to the mainland and can be located along the shoreline regions of Santa Barbara and Los Angeles
