- Coiled vessels made from iron-rich clays that fire gray at the core but orange on the exterior when finished with oxidizing firings. Sand temper is common; surfaces often carry a red slip with black or red painted designs.
Description
Orange-bodied ware with red slips and painted black or red designs, including both plainware and decorated varieties. Forms include bowls, jars, seed jars, and ladles, often with bold geometric decoration.
Size
Bowls commonly 18–30 cm in diameter; jars typically 22–36 cm tall. Plainware Tsegi Orange forms may include larger storage vessels up to 40 cm tall.
Distribution
Produced over a wide area north of Homol’ovi and associated with Kayenta Ancestral Puebloan communities, with distribution across northeastern Arizona and into adjacent Utah and New Mexico.

Tsegi Orange Ware represents a major technological shift in Ancestral Puebloan red-ware production and is a key link between San Juan Red Ware and later Jeddito Yellow Ware and Roosevelt Red Ware sequences.
