Description

Early Mimbres bowls and jars with simple black-on-white decoration. Designs include bands, simple lines, triangles, and dotted patterns on a light slip. Early pieces show thicker walls and simpler geometric layouts compared to later Mimbres styles.

Size

Bowls generally 18–28 cm in diameter with moderate wall thickness. Jars usually 20–35 cm tall.

Distribution

Centered in the Mimbres Valley of southwestern New Mexico, with distribution to nearby valleys and uplands.
