Description

Mata Ortiz pottery refers to contemporary ceramics produced in the village of Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua. Inspired by the prehistoric Casas Grandes tradition, these vessels feature extremely thin walls, polished surfaces, and highly elaborate painted designs including fine-line geometric motifs, wildlife imagery, and complex paneling. Forms include effigy vessels, wide-shouldered jars, seed jars, and tall-necked jars.

Size

Vessels range widely, but typical art pieces measure 10–35 cm in height with walls as thin as 2–4 mm.
